Episode #77: Dunhill Records Spectacular
“Not Just A Company That Makes Records…But A Record Company. When You Think About This…There’s Quite A Difference.” The Dunhill label was launched with this slogan in May 1965 by Jay Lasker, Lou Adler, Bobby Roberts and Pierre Cossette. The imprint bowed with a single by Adler’s wife of the time, Shelley Fabares, “My Prayer” and would continue into the 1970’s making wonderful waxings, as well as fostering such talents as Barry McGuire, The Mama’s And The Papa’s, Grass Roots, P.F. Sloan and so many others. Dunhill was a truly Californian creation at the epicenter of the Los Angeles music scene; a unique independent with lasting impact.
Dunhill also happens to be a personal favorite of “Come To The Sunshine” host, Andrew Sandoval, who has sorted through hundreds of Dunhill singles to present you with a dream show of fabulous 45’s by: Shelley Fabares/Willie And The Wheels/The Ginger-Snaps featuring Dandee Dawson/The Iguanas/Terry Black/P.F.
